We are now accepting new tree removal clients in the Lakes Region. We are fully insured and able to take down the majority of nuisance trees without having to climb them. We can normally provide our service at a much lower rate than many of our competitors, depending on the type of trees you wish to remove. We are particularly in need of Ash firewood for the winter months, so if you have some standing dead or green Ash trees that are easily accessible and in need of dropping, we may charge much less per tree than we would for green Oak. The harder and greener the wood, the more it dulls our chains to cut it up. Still, our rates per tree will rarely eclipse $500, far below the industry average described in the above graphic. Special trees may require special circumstances, but we are experts in low-impact work, which means we do not tear up your yard with huge vehicles. We process the trees where they fall with minimal equipment and minimal impact to your property. We remove all wood that can be processed into firewood unless you prefer to keep some for burning yourself. We can also burn brush on site or create a variety of out-of-the-way brush piles for you. We currently do not offer chipping services for brush or stump removal. What we can do is cut every stump right to ground level. Typical per-tree rates for removal through our company will average around $200-$350.

DEAD WOOD WANTED!!

The Dead Wood Society is in need of seasoned hardwood for the upcoming winter season. We will be selling some and donating some to needy families. If you have trees that are standing dead or already on the ground that you want gone, we can handle all the work for you. We will remove all the wood for free, and in many cases we can arrange for you to get some of the wood we cut and split for your own use.

If you have acreage that is fairly level and easily accessible, we can go through it and take just what is dead and dying and/or remove other unwanted green trees if needed. Call Rich at 603-630-6235 or 617-209-4325 if you are interested or need more information. We are a socially conscious and environmentally friendly company, and we specialize in low impact logging. That means no large equipment comes in, and there is no huge mess left behind.

Since fall is here, it is difficult to tell which standing trees are dead and which ones have just lost their leaves. To better recognize dead trees, look for small mushrooms on the trunk, branches devoid of any buds, and scattered fallen branches around the base of the tree. Most plots of land will have certain areas where there are a cluster of dead trees, usually due to a low or swampy spot where the roots are waterlogged.

We are based in Belmont, NH and would prefer to work in close proximity to our home base. Gilford and Laconia locations will also be considered in addition to Belmont jobs. We are also looking for folks who need all trees cleared from lots, and it would be preferable if we could leave the downed trees until next season. Again, Call or Text Rich at 603-630-6235 or 617-209-4325 for more information or to schedule an appointment for us to have a look at your property. I can also respond to emails sent to rich.bergeron@gmail.com

New Dead Wood Society Furniture Pieces

We currently have a few unique, custom-built pieces for sale here at our Belmont office with much more to come very soon. Call Rich at 603-630-6235 if you are interested in making a purchase or have a custom furniture project for us.

BARNBOARD SHELF WITH TONGUE AND GROOVE BACKING: $150

This is a beautiful piece with an all-natural linseed oil finish that features some weathered barnboard with fantastic saw marks. The back wall is made of old tongue and groove siding, from the same barn. The shelf is 3 1/2 feet tall and nearly 30 inches wide at the top.

BEAVER STICK SHELF WRAPPED IN VINES WITH HEART ACCENTS: $250

This one-of-a-kind piece is made with a long stick discarded by a beaver in the wild. The stick sits on top of a beautiful old barnboard found in Bethel, Maine. The board is about 46.5 inches long with the beaver stick measuring around 50 inches from tip to tip. Both ends are chewed to a point. The shelf has three strong brackets to hold it up on the wall and has an obvious heart theme. The hooks on the front are shaped like hearts in addition to the center-piece and two woven vine hearts (one at each end). It is finished with a fine coat of shellac.

DOCK TABLE: $100

This rustic dock post table is perfect for anyone who enjoys furniture with a nautical theme. It is made from a naturally weathered dock post (complete with bumper pad, reflector and rope grommet), a piece of an old cabinet for the table top and the base for an old belt motor for the footer. There is even a small shelf which would be a perfect place for a cold bottle of beer. This would be ideal as a side table for an old favorite chair. It would also be an awesome fixture on the porch of any lakehouse. It is finished with two coats of amber shellac.

FOLDING TABLE FEATURING OLD LAKE WINNISQUAM MAP AND NEW ENGLAND MAP BORDER: $100

This is another piece that is perfect for a lakehouse setting. It folds into a standing position that shows off the maps even when the table is not being used. It is also accented by birch bark edging and ornate furniture tacks. It is finished with multiple coats of high-gloss decoupage glue that makes it very durable and waterproof.

MORE TO COME: Stay tuned to our site for more pieces in the next few weeks. We will be creating more natural wood products and holiday-themed items in the near future.

Custom Wood Slab Cutting Now Available

The Dead Wood Society is now able to provide custom, rough cut wood slabs for our customers. We have a variety of hardwoods  and plenty of pine available, or we can come to you and cut slabs for you with our Alaskan Sawmill. Below are some examples of fresh-cut Hophornbeam, one of the hardest woods available in New Hampshire forests. We found a particularly large tree to make these boards out of, and we have some long pieces left to cut. Call Rich at 603-630-6235 for estimates and information. We can cut aged wood as well as green wood, but the rule on slabs is the greener the wood, the better the boards will come out as long as they are dried properly.

New Dead Wood Society Furniture/Home Decor Items

Above is a very involved project we just finished, creating a table lamp/night light with beaver-chewed sticks, vines and birch bark for the base and a stretched out Sprite bottle for the bulb to sit on top of. This lamp is fully functional and uses a small night light bulb.  There are hours of vine work, finishing and meticulous glue and carpentry work wrapped up in this piece. It is a steal at $200. Contact Rich at 603-630-6235 with any questions or to arrange a pickup.

The above key holder hangs on the wall from a small string loop. All the vines are real, and so is the bird's nest (the eggs are plastic pearls). It is very lightweight and can hang on a single nail easily. The inlaid sign on the birch bark square says "Home is Where the Heart is." We are asking $80 for this one-of-a-kind piece. Contact Rich at 603-630-6235 with any questions or to arrange a pickup.

This table is a simple pine end table with a twist. We added birch bark accents to the woodworking in between the two platforms and also inserted this crazy looking broken limb. The limb broke in a manner that made it look like the smiling face of some monster with hair sticking out of the top of the head. There are vines wrapped around the top of the head to appear like a hair tie as well. The detail in this piece is astounding. The head piece has incredible natural designs with lots of swirls and multiple circles that could be the eyes of the monster. You can easily move the table around by grabbing anywhere under the head on the stick poking out. It is a very secure and solid bond. Also, this piece started out with a dark finish, so there is a tremendous amount of sanding work in this piece. We can let it go for $200.  Contact Rich at 603-630-6235 with any questions or to arrange a pickup.

STAY TUNED AS WE CONTINUE TO EXPAND OUR OFFERINGS AND COMPLETE NEW PROJECTS. WE WILL POST ALL NEW PRODUCTS HERE. We can also deliver pieces within 20 miles of Belmont, NH for a small fee or ship to you if necessary.
