About The Dead Wood Society

The Dead Wood Society's ultimate mission is to become a non-profit corporation that provides wood stoves and cords of wood to needy families. To do that we need to develop a large stockpile of our favorite wood: standing and fallen dead wood.

We will come to your location with a splitter and two chainsaws to process your dead wood at a rate of $200 per day with "work for wood" discounts available depending on the quality of the target trees.

We utilize all of the byproducts of our lumber processing, which includes all the scraps we use in our bio char applications. We will also process live trees, but we prefer working with dead wood since it is already seasoned for burning. Clearing out your property of dead wood improves the look of the land and also allows for new growth. Since old growth and rotten dead wood can attract insect infestations, we will also remove all the bugs we can find for feeding to a family of egg-laying hens. We'll even collect and/or remove brush piles on request. This wood will be used for a bio char burning process at the Dead Wood Society headquarters in Belmont, New Hampshire.

We are a small, independent company looking to provide the Lakes Region a trusted source for low-impact logging with a focus on recycling dead wood for wood stove burning and bio char production. We can also show up to process your wood on your timetable for $200 a day, which includes 16 man hours with three professional chainsaws. We also work through the winter! Book our services today by calling Dead Wood Society Founder Rich Bergeron at 617-209-4325.

We can also quote individual tree removal projects and provide free estimates for clients local to Gilmanton, Gilford, Laconia and Belmont. Hire our two-man crew and all our equipment for $25 per hour with no hidden fees or costs like other companies charge. If the wood you have is high quality, we may be able to reduce our fees by up to 50 % if we can retain half the wood for cord sales.

Eventually we will also produce bags of bio-char enriched mulch and potting soil for purchase. Bio char is extremely effective in enhancing the growth of crops, and the practice of planting in soil mixed with charred wood dates back to ancient societies in South America. Bio char has unique properties that allow for absorption of minerals and elements that are essential for healthy plant development. Stay tuned for our own bio char page here to learn more.

Finally, we will work on creating an educational clinic on low impact logging with minimal tools and bio-char and bio-mass briquette production.

If you would like more information on how you can assist our efforts to help needy families with their wood heating needs, call Rich at 617-209-4325. We are looking for official sponsors and people who will pledge to operate their own cord wood businesses with the Dead Wood Society mentality.
